Welcome to Charleston! This fall, experience some of the finest and most historic houses and gardens in America.
Fall is Charleston’s best-kept secret. With pleasant weather and light crowds, what could be better than to take advantage of the many opportunities the Preservation Society has arranged? Whether it is one of our self-paced walking tours of private houses and gardens, a “Living in History” lunch lecture, a plantation tour, or an “Up-close and Personal” tour, there is something for everyone.
Each Thursday through Sunday in October we offer self-guided tours with no two being the same. Unless stated otherwise, guests will visit a minimum of four or five private interiors and several personal gardens. Docents will share information about the houses, their periods, and what makes each property unique. Guests will leave not only with a sense of history, but also with the stories that make each property and the city like no other in America. Tours cover several blocks so expect a good bit of walking.
