A total eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the sun and earth and completely hides the sun.  This is due to happen around 6:45 pm on August 21, 2017.  A partial eclipse takes place when the moon partially blocks the sun.  This will happen for about an hour and a half before and again for an hour and a half after the total eclipse, as the moon moves away from the sun.  For exact times go to:  https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogle/SEgoogle2001/SE2017Aug21Tgoogle.html   Use your mouse to move along the path of eclipse until you stop it over South Carolina.

According the website http://www.eclipse2017.org/  this is the first total eclipse to cut a path across the entire continental  United States since 1918.  And we are in it’s path!
