The Seabrook Island Garden Club will present “The Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement” on Friday, February 10th at 9:30am at the Lake House.
The Garden Club tries hard to offer interesting and relevant speakers at the monthly meetings. And while we have had many outstanding presenters, it is always wonderful when one of our own steps up to share their expertise. Club member Susan Lord is the perfect example. On Friday, February 10, 2017, please join the members of the Garden Club as we welcome our very own Susan as she brings to life the delightful practice of Ikebana. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. “It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing a closeness with nature.”
Susan Lord has studied and practiced Ikebana for the last 7 years. As a longtime student of Ikebana, Sogetsu School, Susan will discuss and demonstrate this art form. Susan is a National Garden Club Student Judge, a member of South Carolina Judges Club, and participates in the Palmetto Design and Horticulture Study Group. In addition, Susan is President of the Magnolia Garden Club of Johns Island, a member of the Seabrook Island Garden Club and also the Yacht Haven Garden Club of Alexandria, VA. She has held a number of positions at the local and district levels of the National Garden Club and leads a monthly Ikebana study group. Susan and her husband Jim Whittaker have been long time residents and property owners in Seabrook Island.
The Seabrook Island Garden Club welcomes all Seabrook Island neighbors, friends, and guests. We hope to see you there!
