Over 150 Seabrookers gathered for a glorious evening of Soups, Chilis, Broths, Chowders and desserts when the Seabrook Island Natural History Group hosted its annual Soup Supper at the Club Friday evening.
In the highlight event of the night, eight competitors vied for the coveted SINHG Soup Spoon awarded to the Chef serving the best entry. In a tight competition, the four judges, Nancy Bryant, Lisa Cermak, Ann Zielinski and Matthew Hoisington, reached a decision that it was a tie. In a rare taste-off, Ray Keegan’s “Asparagus & Fennel Soup” was deemed the winner. Finishing in second place was Rob Jerome’s “Breaking Winds Chili”.
Other contestants and their entries were:
Pat Hite – Italian Vegetable Soup
Nancy Brown – Nancy’s Corn Chowder
Sharon Carter – Shrimp Bisque
Executive Sous Chef Van Mixson – Smoked Chicken and Corn Chowder
George Reinhart – Scotch Broth
Thad Peterson – KP’s Savory White Bean Soup
Much of the credit for the success of the evening goes to all the volunteer help including greeters, soup stallions and table monitors. Special thanks to Doris Reinhart and Jean Conyers for their organizational and management skills.
