Safety & Security Abridged Minutes, February 1

The following is an abridged summary of the minutes from the February 1  Safety & Security meeting. A complete copy of the minutes is available in the archives section of the SIPOA website at http://www.associationvoice.com/ResourceCenter/15432/Library

Committee discussion topics:
• The Committee expressed appreciation to Dennis Nagy for his Committee leadership over the past 3 years, as today is his last meeting and he will be leaving the Board.
• The Committee discussed the ongoing problem of non-compliance with trash dumping policy. Some items, such as nails and large items can cause damage to other property owners and to the equipment; food trash left outside the recycling dumpster attracts animals. In spite of the clear informational/warning signs, this problem continues. In a continuing effort to achieve compliance, the policy will continue to be strictly enforced with citations issued to violators.
• Following the Christmas holidays the recycling dumpster was overflowing because the trash company didn’t make it out to the Island to change the bin. Many Seabrook Islanders dropped off their recycling but the bin could not contain the surplus so no fines were issued.
• Per Phil’s suggestion, we will research and consider the feasibility of allowing electric bicycles. While current SIPOA policy does not allow them, this increasingly popular technology warrants additional research.

SIPOA Security (G4S) Report:
• Citations: There were 51 traffic citations issued in January, which included the following:
– 36 speeding violations
– 2 no driver license
– 2 failure to stop
– 1 trailer violation
– 6 no pass displayed violations
– 2 stop sign violations
– 2 unlawful passing violations
• All appeals were reviewed and/or heard by the Committee and decisions were made based on the facts and merits of each case.
