World Affairs Council of Charleston, 10/9

The World Affairs Council of Charleston is hosting a meeting on Monday, October 9, 2017, at the Citadel Holliday Alumni Center, 69 Hagood Avenue, in Charleston.

The subject is “Understanding North Korea – Why does it risk annihilation provoking a nuclear confrontation with the United States? How should we respond?

The speaker is Dr. James Person.   He is Director of the Hyundai Motor-Korea Foundation Center for Korean History and Public Policy at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC  where until very recently he served as the founding Coordinator of the North Korea International Documentation Center. He is also a professor of modern Korean history at George Washington University. He is a frequent media commentator on Korean affairs, has published widely on both North and South Korea and is a regular visitor to the latter country.

North Korea is a very topical issue. It dominates our current national security concerns, having faced a possible crisis only a few weeks ago. Dr. Person is one of the nation’s top experts on North Korea and on Korean issues more broadly.

This is a timely topic with a superbly well-informed speaker.

Reception 5:15pm; Speaker 6:00pm
