SINHG Goes to Church

Members of the Seabrook Island Natural History Group enjoyed a walking tour last week of several historic churches in downtown Charleston with historian Carol Ezell- Gilson. Carol’s lecture-on-the-go evoked the original walled port city, and the social and economic factors that shaped the religious diversity of Charleston. Members learned how religious structures and groups dealt with wars, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. All came away with an appreciation of how Charleston came to be called The Holy City.
