Seabrook Goes International

The World Affairs Council of Charleston (WACC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and engage the wider Charleston community through timely non-partisan activities on world affairs and international relations.

The Board of WACC consists of 16 people, and this year four board members are Seabrookers. They include Ray Hoover, who will be WACC’s treasurer, Robin Girardi, who will oversee cooperation between WACC and the Charleston school system, Chuck Bensonhaver, in charge of publicity, and Barbara Burgess, president.

The WACC hosts six events each year featuring distinguished speakers addressing international events affecting our lives. In addition to these six presentations, WACC is initiating a business luncheon series during the 2018-2019 program year for members and non-members alike. This series will tackle the kinds of problems and opportunities faced when doing business on an international basis.

The first luncheon presentation is set for September 18, 2018, at Bessinger’s Restaurant at 11:30 am. The speaker, Mr. Wally Wang, is Senior Project Manager with the South Carolina Department of Commerce and he will address “China’s Impact on South Carolina Business.”

There will also be a special dinner meeting on October 3, 2018, at the Citadel Alumni Center. Dr. Larry Diamond, an expert on global democracy and author of six books, will address the issue “Is the Global Liberal Democratic Order in Crisis and Why Should We Even Care in the First Place.”

Separate registration is required for each of these events. For additional information about the World Affairs Council of Charleston,  membership and program registration, visit the WACC’s website.
