MORE. GOOD. DAYS. Art Gala benefitting Families Living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Original artwork created by individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia will be featured at Respite Care Charleston’s annual Art Gala on October 25, 2018, at the Charleston Yacht Club.  The event includes the art exhibit, a silent auction, cocktails and heavy hors-d’oeuvres.

Now in its eighth year, the Art Gala benefits Respite Care Charleston (RCC), a nonprofit organization serving those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.  RCC programs include support groups for caregivers and individuals with early-stage diagnoses, as well as social day programs, education and outreach, and other services.  The featured artwork was created by participants during art therapy in RCC’s day programs – half-day sessions offered in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, West Ashley, James Island, and Johns Island.  The day program promotes aging-in-place by offering short breaks (respite) for caregivers and by providing participants memory stimulating socialization, music and art therapies, and gentle exercise.
