Learn to make traditional sweetgrass baskets with the Charleston Museum and basket maker Sarah Edwards-Hammond. Mrs. Edwards-Hammond comes from a long line of basket makers and has passed down the tradition to her own children, grandchildren, and others in the community.
The instructor will share a brief history of this art form, then participants will spend the rest of the class making their own basket as Mrs. Edwards Hammond guides them and answers any questions they may have. Grab your friends, family, or just bring yourself and learn about an incredibly beautiful craft that has been a staple of culture, art, and history in Charleston for centuries!
