Dinner in the Tree House

The Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy Presents:

“Dinner in The Tree House”

The Green Space Conservancy Gala Casino Night is delighted to offer a unique live auction item – “Dinner in The Tree House” – for six guests at the lovely home of Ray andsigsc photo jan 2019 Lucy Hoover, located at 2824 Dove Nest Court.
The house was designed and built by Ray, an architect, to preserve the lot’s Live Oaks by inserting the home into the property with as little disturbance to the natural environment as possible. After buying a vacation home on Seabrook Island, they quickly decided to make Seabrook their permanent home. The search for a lot took several years as the Hoovers were living and working in Dubai, UAE and only had a few short weeks to enjoy Seabrook each year. The Hoovers knew that one asset was essential – their home needed to be surrounded by Live Oaks and green space. Living in a desert climate made them appreciate greenery and trees!
They found the perfect building site which included 13 Live Oaks with over a 20-inch caliper and another nine Grand Oaks with a 24-inch or greater caliper – all of which were preserved. The building site reminded them of a cathedral space with a graceful and shaded canopy covering, which would eventually become their home. They knew the trees would filter the harsh summer sun, buffer stronger winds and provide a more comfortable living environment and other energy advantages.
Ray worked several years on designing the house, with Lucy’s input, to best accommodate the building site and to meet their living needs. The lucky bidders of this live auction item will be able to tour the Hoovers home and gain an understanding of the design factors and philosophy used to develop the plan. They will be able to enjoy the interior views of the spectacular Live Oak forest on the property and the adjacent Conservancy lots.
The meal will be, of course, inspired by Middle Eastern dishes and flavors, all prepared by Lucy. Think of cold mezze such as Hummus and Mutabbal, Fattoush, Chicken Mandi and Lebanese chocolate, among other tasty treats from the East. Wine will be included; but not derived from the abstaining Gulf area.
Gather a group of friends NOW so you don’t miss a chance to tour this unique home and enjoy a delicious and Middle-Eastern inspired dinner. We’ll see you at the Green Space Gala’s Casino Night where we are “GROWING THE GREEN.”
