Seabrook Island Artist Guild
Artist of the Month for June 2019

Opening Reception at the Lake House
Monday, June 3, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm

A Seabrook resident and member of the Seabrook Island Artist Guild for several years, Linda Bell has always been interested in creative endeavors from sewing to carpentry to gardening. Drawing and painting have always been on the ‘round tuit’ list. She had sets of oil and acrylic but rarely used them. Fear of wasting paint, developing wrong habits, and deciding WHAT to paint was a stumbling block. She worked in advertising using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for nearly 18 years. She hated working with/ looking at a computer all day so she quit the computer graphics and took some faux finishing classes. Those were fun, but moving and climbing ladders and finishing an entire room is a lot of labor.

In 2014, she briefly joined an online painting class by Richard Robinson using acrylics. Then a sick family member required focus and art was set aside. Upon moving to Seabrook 3 years ago, Linda exhibited 2 acrylic pieces at the Property Owners Association show. She also started taking weekly classes with artist Gary Kunkleman, which really got her started in oil. She has taken a few more online video classes and recently a watercolor class on Seabrook by Helen Beacham and an oil workshop with Chris Groves. At this point, Linda is happy to explore ‘her style’ and may well continue with oil, acrylic, and watercolor. She finds the Low Country offers an endless supply of appealing subject matter.

To enjoy her painting, visit the front hallway of the Lake House during the month of June.
