August Calendar at Johns Island Regional Library

Johns Island Regional Library on Maybank Highway offers a wide variety of activities and resources for children, teens and adults. Featured in August are two interesting programs on the important role of indigo plants in the agricultural economy of both South Carolina and colonial America.

  • On Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 11:00 am, CCPL’s historian, Dr. Nic Butler, will present an illustrated overview of the historical context of indigo’s rise and fall in early South Carolina.
  • On Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 4:30 pm the film Blue Alchemy: Stories of Indigo will be shownwhich is an independent, feature-length documentary by Mary Lance about the history, culture, and revival of the blue dye.
