“What the HEMP is That?” Seabrook Island Garden Club, meets Friday, October 11, 2019, 9:30 AM at the Oyster Catcher Community Center, Seabrook Island
What a great turnout at our first Garden Club meeting of the 2019-2020 season! Energized by new faces and 10 new enrollments, the buzz over refreshments at the September meeting was not surprisingly mostly about Hurricane Dorian and the recovery in progress.
Missed the September meeting? Have no fears, we have a very exciting line up going forward. You will want to mark your calendars and join us on Friday, October 11, 2019, for an exciting and perhaps controversial topic with our special guests, Lucas Snyder and W. Louis Miles, What the HEMP is That?
Lucas Snyder is a founder and the Executive Director of the South Carolina Hemp Farmers Association. Lucas has been working with hemp since 2014 following his time at The Citadel where he entered and won a school-wide, business plan competition, promoting a hemp-based business. Since graduation in 2015, Lucas has been traveling the continent to learn more about hemp cultivation and conveying that knowledge back to South Carolina farmers and giving the industry a boost with this new industrial crop. Joining Lucas is W. Louis Miles, a scientist, and entrepreneur. He was involved in academic research for many years following his undergraduate studies from Clemson University. W. Luis has built a diverse skillset, drawing from years of experience in multiple disciplines including cancer biochemistry, plant pathology, plant breeding, and genetic engineering. Mainly concentrating on the functional intersection of science and business, he took a leap of faith with the development of the legal US Cannabis industry, and led chemistry and compounding for a Colorado Cannabis startup, focused on pharmaceutical preparations. This direct experience with cannabis science and business inspired his return to Charleston, his hometown, and the founding of CBD Carolinas in the Summer of 2018. Today CBD Carolinas has transformed into the manufacturing company, Clarity Nutraceuticals. As the CEO, Louis runs day-to-day operations and guides business development by facilitating professional collaborations and analyzing market research.
We hope to see you on October 11, 2019. As always all members and guests are welcomed. A $5.00 donation for non-members will be appreciated.
Monthly agendas include light refreshments at 9:30 am, a brief business report at 10, followed by the guest speaker. The meetings usually conclude between 11 and 11:30 and take place on the second Friday of each month at the Oyster Catcher Community Center. For membership information, you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
