SIPOA 2020 Election – Nominating Committee Candidate – Julia Thogmartin

Candidate for the SIPOA Nominating Committee – Julia Thogmartin

My husband Don and I purchased our Golf Shore Villa in 1995 as our vacation and future retirement home, spending summers and vacation time on Seabrook. Upon retirement in 2012, we moved from north central Ohio and made Seabrook our full time residence where we immersed ourselves in a number of island activities.

Having lived on Seabrook Island over the last 24 years I have met some amazing individuals and experienced a unique paradise that I would like to see maintained and protected.  I think my skills in teamwork, the pride I have in our wonderful island, and my experiences both in education and on Seabrook Island make me a valuable asset as a candidate for the nominating committee of the SIPOA.

Over the last ten years, I have met a wide range of residents through my involvement in the following organizations:

  • Digging into Roots Together (D.I.R.T.)
  • Seabrook Island Ladies Golf Association (SILGA)
  • Various Bridge groups
  • Photography Club
  • Scrapbooking Club
  • Seabrook Island Natural History Group (SINHG)
    • Trip Leader
    • Trip Planning Co-chair
    • Trip Coordinator
    • Vice President
    • President
  • Seabrook Island Club Social Committee
  • Golf Shore Villa Association
    • Vice President
    • President
    • COVAR Representative

I have a Bachelor of Science in K – 12 Education as a Media Specialist and a minor in Business along with a Masters in Education Administration. As a K – 12 educator and administrator for 30 years, I have met and learned to deal with a great many people and situations.  I have led many large group field trips, and have provided staff development locally, statewide and nationally. As a member of our district’s administrative team, I have been involved in interviewing both certified and non-certified staff.
