Seabrook Island Utility Commission (SIUC) would like to remind everyone that you can help prevent sewer clogs and backups. Putting the wrong things down the drain or flushing them in your toilet can cause costly plumbing issues for you and damage to the Island’s sewer system. There are only three things that should be flushed . . . human waste (one and two) and toilet paper. Wipes labeled “flushable” are notorious for causing blockages and damage to our pump stations. Wipes should never be flushed.
Remember as you cook those holiday meals, do not pour grease or oil down the drain. Gravies, sauces, salad dressings and other fatty liquids can clog pipes. These items should be placed in a sealable container and put in your trash.
If you experience a service emergency after hours such as a backup in your drain or toilet, contact your plumber or a service such as Roto-Rooter immediately. Only when the blockage appears beyond your private plumbing system, your property line contact SIUC. The utility service emergency number is 843.768.0102.
Happy Holidays!
