Town of Seabrook Island participated in a county-wide conference call on March 6, 2020, convened by Charleston County Emergency Management Department (EMD). Participants on the call included medical professionals from South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).

Following are some of the major points from that call:
• Currently there are no reported cases in SC. As of the call there are confirmed cases in 19 states, including Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.
• Primary symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Seek initial treatment for these symptoms from your personal healthcare provider. Do not call 911.
• The risk to the public remains low. However, to minimize potential exposure to the disease residents should follow guidelines established by Center for Disease Control (CDC) including: frequent hand washing; avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; avoid contact with anyone who has been exposed; stay home, avoid crowded places; and cover mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

We strongly encourage people to visit the SCDHEC website. Go to scdhec.gov and select the pointer for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
