So we’ve been mostly socially distant for a couple of months now. We’ve had restricted use of The Lake House facilities and classes. As a result, our bodies may be getting out of shape, our muscles slack, and we’ve become more at risk for falling.
One of the important exercises that we, as older adults, need to practice is getting up off the floor after a fall. Okay, we’ve all seen the advertisement on TV showing a senior person who has fallen and can’t get up, and we may even know someone that has been in that situation. So your challenge is to get down on the floor and get up. Here’s a video that shows one method for getting up after a fall. This next video shows a couple of other methods for getting up off the floor. So, getting up off the floor is tougher than you thought? Here’s a video of several exercises you can do to strengthen and tone the muscles you need to get up off the floor.
During this pandemic, while you’re trying to remain socially distant, take a few minutes each day to run through these exercises and make them part of your ‘new normal’ daily routine. The more you practice this, the stronger your muscles will get and the easier it will become.
If you are hesitant to start trying out these exercises on your own, please contact Jamie at The Lake House (firstname.lastname@example.org) to help you hire one of the personal trainers for a few sessions until you can do the exercises on your own. Also, The Lake House instructors have created a series of video exercise programs to help keep us in shape while we are all trying to reduce our in-person interaction. Please contact Jamie if you’d like the monthly subscription.
Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
