The 19th annual 2.4 miles Low Country Splash Open Water Swim was held in the Wando
and Cooper rivers on Saturday, September 26, 2020. The event raises funds for the Low Country Aquatics Program (LAPS) which provides free swim lessons to 1500 kids a year.
Seabrook’s own Derek Fyfe was was the oldest (74 years old) of 143 swimmers in this open water swim and came in 2nd place of 4 in the over 70 group. Derek also beat over 25% of the field of men and women of all ages.
Derek says “My success in this, my 6th Splash, was in large part due to working out 3 times a week on the beach with Mark Durinsky and my “MisFit Cam.”
Proceeds from the Spash benefits the Logan Rutledge Children’s Foundation, a local not for profit organization promoting the health and welfare of children in the Lowcountry. The foundation was established in May of 2002 in memory of Logan Jennings Rutledge. Over the years, the Splash has raised over $500,000 for the Logan Rutledge Children’s Foundation.
