Gibbes for Kids in October

The Gibbes Museum of Art has exciting happenings for kids in October!Saturday Morning Art Camp for ages 7-10: Express Yourself
Join teaching artist Janell Walker Smalls on Saturdays for a fun morning of artmaking inspired by artists and objects in Building a Legacy. Young artists will create monoprint collage artwork inspired by Sam Gilliam while learning about abstract art and the influences behind this significant artist’s work. Materials included, but students can bring one snack (recommended) and must wear a mask or face covering. Class size is limited to allow for proper social distancing.

Visual Storytime at the Gibbes
Join the Museum for a Virtual Storytime in collaboration with the Charleston County Public Library. Families will enjoy stories and songs inspired by temporary exhibitions and works in the permanent collection and recorded in the Gibbes galleries. Storytime will air on Facebook @theGibbesMuseum.

Creating Characters and Stories: Illustration Workshop with Clare Pernice for ages 8-11
Young artists will learn about creating supernatural characters and stories while developing their own unique illustration style in this special Halloween edition of our Illustration workshop. Each workshop will build on understanding characters and how illustrators find inspiration using different drawing prompts, storyboards, and art materials. This workshop is taught by professional picture book author, illustrator, and instructor Clare Pernice.
