SINHG Tours Magnolia Cemetery

Nineteen Seabrook Island Natural History Group (SINHG) members made a nighttime visit to Charleston’s historic Magnolia Cemetery late this month as part of SINHG’s series of fall trips for members.

Curated by Bull Dog Tours, members learned of the cemetery’s founding in 1849 and its status as the final resting place for more than 2,000 Confederate soldiers, including the eight crewmen of the CSS Hunley submarine and eighty-four soldiers who died at Gettysburg. The tour was a moving tribute to the Holy City’s sometimes tumultuous history.
