The Gibbes Museum of Art has exciting happenings coming this December for adults and children! Please see below for events and exhibitions rolling out next month. In addition, the Gibbes Museum will be beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Happy holidays!
Annual Antique Stroll at the Gibbes
The Gibbes Museum of Art will be holding its annual Antique Stroll in a new format with enhanced COVID-19 safety measures. New for this year, the event will be held at the Gibbes, where guests will stroll through the museum’s large indoor spaces where Charleston’s top antique dealers and designers will have items on display. Vendors include Tucker Payne Antiques, Birlant’s, John Pope Antiques, Fritz Porter and The Silver Vault. This year, Pamela Brown with Old Hat Vintage in Park Circle will also be bringing her expertise as a vintage collector and upholsterer to the stroll. Capacity is limited to allow for proper social distancing and a mask or comparable face covering is required. Visitors will be organized into small groups with timed visits to each vendor.

Museums on US Weekend
The Bank of America Museums on Us program offers free admission to more than 220 cultural institutions nationwide during the first full weekend of every month, and the Gibbes Museum of Art is pleased to be a continuing partner in this program. This promotion offers one free general admission to each individual cardholder who presents a Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank (US Trust) credit or debit card along with a photo ID.

Virtual Curator-Led Tour: Highlights from the Permanent Collection with Sara Arnold
Guests are invited to explore the Gibbes permanent collection with Gibbes Museum curator, Sara Arnold. The tour will be streamed through Facebook Live @TheGibbesMuseum.

Virtual Storytime at the Gibbes
Visitors are invited to a virtual storytime in collaboration with the Charleston County Public Library. Families will enjoy stories and songs inspired by temporary exhibitions and works in the permanent collection. Stories will air on Facebook @theGibbesMuseum.

Building a Legacy: The Vibrant Vision Collection of Jonathan Green and Richard Weedman
This exhibition is a selection of 49 works of art from the private collection of acclaimed Charleston artist Jonathan Green and his partner and studio director, Richard Weedman. Over the past forty years, Green and Weedman have amassed an astonishing collection of nearly 1,300 paintings, sculpture and works on paper. Building a Legacy presents a selection of works of art from this significant private collection, offering a rare glimpse at the couple’s aesthetic interests and the artistic inspiration behind Green’s own artwork.

Charleston Collects: Devotion and Fantasy, Witchcraft and the World’s End
This exhibition is a selection of art curated by Lawrence Goedde, Ph.D., professor of art history at the University of Virginia. The collection, which is comprised of objects created in the Low Countries and Germany between 1440 and 1590, showcases a world of contradictions and unease—whether the subject is a troubled Virgin Mary contemplating her young son, or a menacing group of malevolent figures inspired by Hieronymus Bosch, or Albrecht Dürer’s famous scenes from Revelations.
