August Movie – “The Eagle Huntress”
We’re back with in-person movies at the Oyster Catcher Community Center. We hate to do this, as we were looking forward to a normal get together, but with the spike from the Delta variant and the potential for breakthrough cases, we regretfully request that you wear a mask, except when eating or drinking. We also request that family groups sit six feet from others. As before, you are welcome to bring a pillow for comfort as well as your favorite snack and beverage. If you are not comfortable with an in-person activity, there will be a virtual option available. September’s movie was already scheduled to be seen via Zoom.

Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, trains to become the first female in 12 generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. While there are many old Kazakh eagle hunters who vehemently reject the idea of any female taking part in their ancient tradition, Aisholpan’s father, Nurgaiv, believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she’s determined. Birding Opportunities
Learning Together at Kiawah River
When: Sunday, August 15, 2021, 8:00 am – 11:00 am
We will drive to various locations on the property and then walk for better birding observations. Although we will be getting out of our vehicles at times, we hope our vehicle air conditioners will make this an enjoyable August activity.
Learning Together Golf Course-Ocean Winds
When: Monday, August 30, 2021, 8:30 am – 10:30 am
This is one of our most popular activities, so be sure to sign up early. It is a fun and interesting time for all, but especially good for those with mobility issues as we travel in golf carts. You can walk as little or as much as you are able.
