On August 15, 2021, South Carolina’s new open carry law went into effect. We are advised by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division that the “Open Carry with Training Act” does not change where a concealed weapons permit (CWP) holder can carry in South Carolina, nor does it change the right of private organizations, such as SIPOA, and private property owners to prohibit allowing the carrying of a concealed weapon by a valid CWP holder.
Currently, SIPOA rules prohibit any person other than a property owner or full-time resident from bringing any firearm into the Seabrook Island Development and further prohibits the discharge of any firearm within the Seabrook Island Development without the express prior written authorization of SIPOA.
