Sunday Matinees at the Lake House

Join us at The Lake House on Sunday afternoons for a movie, popcorn and fun!

Sunday Matinees will begin at 1:00 PM in the Live Oak Hall. You are welcome to bring your favorite snacks or refreshments. Water and popcorn will be provided.

This week’s (5/1) movie:

THE NOTEBOOK

unnamed-4

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel revolves around Noah Calhoun’s (James Garner) regular visits to a female patron (Gena Rowlands) of an area nursing home. Rather than bore her with the inanities of everyday life, Calhoun reads from an old, faded notebook containing the sweeping account of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) whose love affair was tragically put to a halt after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance.

Bohicket Marina Adding Mexican Restaurant May 5th

nacha mama'sThere is a new Mexican restaurant opening in Bohicket Marina called Nacha Mama’s Taqueria.  The grand opening is scheduled for May 5, or Cinco de Mayo, as the Mexicans say. They plan a full celebration of the opening by featuring a local band, Ben Fagan and the Holy City Hooligans. Their hours will be 11am to 10pm seven days a week. Their location is next door to Red’s.

The restaurant plans to do a modern take on Mexican food, which they describe as all about the drizzle, or sauces as we might know them.  There will be many types of sauces including buffalo types, spicy salsa, tomatillo sesame sauce, citrus mango sauce and lots of avocado. They will be serving tacos, nachos, ceviche, burritos and fajitas.

They plan to emphasize their various brands of tequila and will be featuring flights of tequila, even making suggestions as to pairing tequila with various kinds of food.

Dewey Delovich is partnering with Paul Ferrell in this effort. Paul has owned four restaurants, including J. Paul’z and The Loophole. They have already done two special events in the restaurant, which they consider practice runs before opening up to the public at large.

The restaurant is in the process of being redecorated.  One of the things that is being added is an ample waiting area, where people can get drinks and hors d’oeuvres while waiting for their table. They will not be taking reservations except for large parties.

SIPOA Activities Committee Meeting Minutes

The SIPOA Activities Committee met on Tuesday, April 5, 2016.

At this meeting, updates were provided on the Tech Forums, the SIPOA Guide to the Lake House, and the July 4th theme.

The Tech Forums will be back by popular demand! Chad will continue to teach the forums in 2016 at no charge to Seabrook Island residents. Changes to the format and registration procedure were discussed and will likely be implemented going forward. Dates and topics will be determined by Chad and coordinated with Janet Pasquale, subcommittee chair, and the Lake House.

The Policy & Procedure subcommittee, chaired by Jerry Cohen, has started reviewing the SIPOA Guide to the Lake House. Initial comments were incorporated into the file, which will be discussed further at an April 19th working session.

The July 4th theme was announced by Bruce Kleinman and Valerie Doane as “Red, White and Boom!”

SIPOA Safety and Security Meeting Summary April 2016

Safety and Security Chairman’s remarks and Committee discussion topics:

• Fog lines: Dennis presented to the SIPOA Board our Committee’s motion to add fog lines to Seabrook Island roads and it was turned down. Dennis will reintroduce that motion, with cost estimates, at a future meeting.
• Entrance gate: Dennis and Pete are addressing ongoing problems with the functioning of the gate.
o The Capsure system, which reads bar codes to open the gate, does not always function correctly. As this appears to be an ongoing system problem, our Legal Committee is reviewing our options for cancelling our contract with the vendor and Heather is reviewing other possible vendors.
o There has also been a problem with guests being admitted after passes are called in by property owners. Pete will address this issue with his staff.
• Handicap parking: The committee discussed limited handicap parking for access to the beach. Existing handicap spaces are hard to access and/or do not allow wheelchair access to the beach. Ellen will review possible options and will then present her findings and recommendations to our committee for action to correct this problem.
• CCSO communications: Skip verified with the Town that their staff refers all calls from CCSO to SI Security.
• G4S staffing: There is an ongoing problem with staff turnover at G4S, which adversely impacts their service capabilities. Dennis will discuss corrective actions with G4S at the upcoming quarterly meeting. The Committee discussed possible options, including the feasibility of employing property owners to work at the Gatehouse. Continue reading “SIPOA Safety and Security Meeting Summary April 2016”
