Green Space Conservancy Honors Retiring Directors

Old friends greeted new friends at a wine and cheese reception following the October 13th meeting of the Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy Board.

It was both a joyous and bittersweet occasion. All former and current Green Space Directors were invited to bid a special farewell and heartfelt thank-you to Kevin Garvey and Maryann Bannwart. Both are retiring after six years of remarkable leadership.

The reception was also an opportunity to acknowledge the stewardship and indefatigable service of this year’s four other retiring Directors: Bill Bryant, Gary Quigley, Stuart Spisak, and Jean Conyers. In his remarks, new SIGSC Executive Chair Dave Bauhs praised the retiring Directors for their role in both raising the profile of the Conservancy and increasing the number of direct property donations.

Dave, along with the current Directors, welcomed and pledged support to Board newcomers Vic Augusta, Marge Bottcher, John Conyers, Mary Beth Dacey, and Frank Farfone.

As an apropos memento, Conservancy Vice-Chair Jeri Finke feted all retiring Directors with their own Green Space apron; the de rigueur fashion must-have for every Gala worker. Keepsake aprons, however, weren’t the only fashion statement at the reception. A bewitching, festive spirit was added when last year’s Gala Chair Sharon Carter arrived wearing a Halloween twist on the little black dress!
