You need to be prepared for flooding on the ground floor of your home. Now is the time to clean out the basement/garage.

  • Discard the boxes that have been piling up down there.
  • Move yard chemicals and fertilizers up onto a shelf.
  • Get rid of old cans of paint and chemicals.
  • Get everything off the floor so it doesn’t become saturated, or worse, requiring a toxic waste cleanup after a flood.

Take advantage of the next scheduled brown and white pickup day.

While you’re in the basement/garage, make sure nothing is blocking your flood vents and that they work properly. If your property is adjacent to a storm drain or swale, keep these clear of debris to allow floodwater to freely flow away.

Remember, be prepared; stay safe.
