The Glorious Broadway Musical Comedy Sensation

Sister Act is the feel-good Broadway musical comedy based on the knockout Whoopi Goldberg/1992 hit film. After witnessing a violent crime committed by her mobster boyfriend, flamboyant nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier is placed deep undercover in the witness protection program. Posing as a young nun in a convent, she struggles to fit in with the Mother Superior’s strict rules and regulations. Sharing her infectious love for music, Deloris brings the sizzling sounds of gospel to the convent’s stodgy choir and soon everyone is shakin’ and shimmin’ to the sounds of disco, soul and Motown. The new sound soon turns the struggling church around and teaches the sisters the meaning of soul, and in return, the sisters teach Deloris the beauty of belonging. A hilarious fish-out-of-water story with an infectious score by Alan Menken, the composer of Little Shop of Horrors and The Little Mermaid, Sister Act was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2011, including “Best Musical.”
