Architectural Review and What It Means to You: Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign…As Longs as It Meets the Style Guidelines

Did you know that Seabrook has a Style Guide for signs on the island?  Within the past two years, SIPOA has replaced over 700 road signs, and all comply with this Style Guide.  Consistency and conformity of the colors, sizes, and lettering provide drivers with simple and straightforward information.

Limiting commercial signs is also important for reducing visual clutter and allowing the natural beauty of the landscape to take the forefront on Seabrook Island.  Signs are limited by both Town Ordinance and SIPOA policies.  The SIPOA Policies & Procedures for Residential Development §II.C.6.j states:

Commercial signs such as ‘For Rent’ or ‘For Sale’ and in-ground business identification signs including those provided by security or pet fencing vendors are not allowed on Seabrook Island.

Yet you may have noticed that contractors building new homes and doing major remodels are allowed to put up signs in front their job sites.  The construction sign may include the names of the property owner(s), architect and landscape architect, and builder information as illustrated in the SIPOA Policies and Procedures Appendix N.  No other sub-contractor or advertising signs are allowed.  The SIPOA Rules & Regulations §VIII.C “Signage” states:

Advertising signs showing availability of sales, services, etc., may not be displayed within the SID [Seabrook Island Development].  This includes signs at sites where construction or remodeling is in progress.  The prohibition does not include those signs specifically approved by the ARC.
