Town Letter to BOEM Opposing Offshore Oil and Gas Leasing

In late July, Tidelines published information about how residents could directly contact the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).   Comments could be made about BOEM’s plan to include the Mid and South Atlantic Planning Areas in their five-year National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2019-2024. (Comment period ended August 17.)

While the Town had previously sent a letter to the Governor and our federal elected officials expressing its opposition to the plan, they had not been asked to write directly to BOEM officials. In response to a direct request from BOEM, Mayor Ciancio has written once again–this time to BOEM’s National Program Manager and copying our elected federal officials–about the Town’s opposition to the plan.

The Mayor’s letter can be found by clicking here.
