Brian Rego Guest Artist at Seabrook Island

Brian Rego will be the featured guest at the Tuesday, January 21, 2020, meeting of the Seabrook Island Artist Guild. The meeting will be held in The Lake House Live Oak room at 2:00 pm and is open to all.

Brian was born in Santa Clara, CA, in 1980. He received a BFA in painting at the University of South Carolina and was the recipient of the Ed Yaghjian Award for distinguished undergraduate work. He went on to receive an MFA in painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Shortly afterward, he co-founded the painting collective known as Perceptual Painters as a way to establish and build a community of painters that could offer support to one another as well as others.

He has taught art at the University of South Carolina, University of Mississippi, Columbia College, Benedict Col-lege, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, Mt. Gretna School of Art, Art New England, Beverly Street Studio School, and the Jerusalem Studio School. He co-founded the Midlands School of Art in Columbia, SC, and ran it for three years.

He has changed his focus to teaching online and believes that the practice of cultivating artistic communities who exchange information amongst one another can dramatically deepen and foster personal growth. His creative approach is to combine imagination and memory with the sense of sight and components from the observable world. Brian paints to establish a connection to things, events, and people. His desire is to express his experiences of these things through the play of pictorial imagery.

He has exhibited at Columbia Museum of Fine Art in Columbia, SC, and John Davis Gallery, in Hudson, NY. He resides in Charleston, SC, with his wife and four children.
