Holiday Magic in Historic Charleston

This season Charleston is offering plenty of free family-friendly opportunities to soak in the holiday magic.

  • Charleston Farmers Market in Marion Square will host special Holiday Markets on Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm on December 2, 3, 9, 10, and 16 (no market on December 17). You’ll find everything you need to deck the halls for the holidays and fill the pantry with local goodies, all from local farmers, growers, artisans and crafters.
  • Holiday Parade steps off at 3:00 pm, Sunday, December 3. This fun, high energy parade which will commence on Broad Street at Rutledge, travel north on Meeting Street, and conclude on Calhoun Street at Meeting Street. Tree lighting in Marion Square will take place at the conclusion of the parade.
  • Holiday Parade of Boats sets sail Saturday, December 9, in Charleston Harbor. This is a Lowcountry tradition. The display of lighted and festive boats proceeds from the Cooper River, through the Charleston Harbor and into the Ashley River. This is a family-friendly event is sure to become a holiday tradition for everyone. Viewing spots can be found along Charleston’s waterfront.
  • Holiday Magic on King Street (between John and Mary Streets) is planned for Thursday, December 7 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This family-friendly block party features live music and holiday vendors, with festive refreshments available for purchase.
  • Chanukah in the Square will take place on Sunday, December 10 at 4:00 pm in Marion Square. The event will feature live music, arts and crafts, and traditional seasonal food and will culminate with the lighting of a menorah at dusk. The celebration is an initiative of the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston and Chabad of Charleston.
