SIV Announces Practical Tips for Safe Movement Part III, January 30

Following the tremendous success and enthusiastic feedback from previous sessions, Seabrook Island Village is excited to offer Practical Tips for Safe Movement, Part III. It is scheduled for January 30, from 10:00 am to noon at the Oyster Catcher Community Center.

Practical Tips for Safe Movement is a program that focuses on how to help others with mobility issues, whether chronic or rehabilitative. Organized by Seabrook Island Village Neighbors Helping Neighbors (SIV), this workshop provides participants with opportunities to use common assistive devices in helping others move safely. Physical Therapists from Roper Home and Hospice Services and faculty and doctoral students from Charleston Southern University Department of Physical therapy collaborate to individually guide participants in using best practices.

The group has auto canes, gait belts, walkers, wheelchairs, canes and crutches to successfully prepare participants to be safe in assisting others. As many age in place here or benefit from modern health care interventions, safely assisting others’ movement is a life skill for all. Building on the previous workshops, we added information on your changing body and how it impacts your movement.  Also, new is a risk assessment for falls that is individualized to each participant. Together, we can promote the greatest quality of life for our community.

Pre-registration is requested to ensure that there is plenty of equipment and sufficient resources for all participants. Click here to sign up. If you would rather call us, you can leave a message at 843-212-7181 and a volunteer will return your inquiry.
