The World Affairs Council of Charleston is pleased to present a special opportunity to attend an evening dinner talk with Dr. Peter Skerry, professor of political science at Boston College, on February 8, from 6:00-8:30 PM at the Riverview Room of the Citadel. Dr. Skerry will give an after-dinner talk on “Out of the Shadows, Into the Spotlight: A Commonsense Look at Immigration”. Attendees will meet from 6:00-6:45 for cocktails and conversation with the speaker, and a plated dinner will be served from 6:45-7:45. Dr. Skerry will address the audience for 30 minutes beginning at 7:15, and a question and answer session will follow.
This event is co-sponsored by the Citadel School of Humanities and Social Science and the Citadel Business School.
Please note, this event is not one of the six regular World Affairs Council of Charleston meetings.
Peter Skerry teaches American politics at Boston College and is senior fellow at the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University. He was co-director of the Dialogue on Islam in America at the American Enterprise Institute and served as co-director of the Brookings-Duke Immigration Policy Roundtable. He has also served on the board of UNO — the United Neighborhood Organization — a Chicago community organization that is one of the largest Latino charter-school operators in the country, with 16 sixteen schools serving over 7600 students. He was a member of the Advisory Council on European/Transatlantic Issues at the Heinrich Böll Foundation, an affiliate of the German Green Party. Professor Skerry is the author of Mexican Americans: The Ambivalent Minority and is currently completing, From the Brotherhood to the Neighborhood: Muslims in American Society and Politics.
