Right now the hottest area for wining and dining in the Holy City is upper King Street—slightly-north-of-Calhoun to paraphrase a local acronym—which boasts an eclectic mix of storefronts, fine dining restaurants, small eateries, pubs, wine bars, etc. At night, the mood here is electric, with lights and ever-present street musicians fueling the hubbub of people coming and going. So it was that a group of SINHG members found themselves exploring this foodie heaven last Wednesday afternoon.
Four restaurants were featured on this tour: HoM (a self-proclaimed Burger Boutique and Ping Pong Lounge!); R Kitchen (the ‘R’ is for Rutledge—this tiny restaurant serves delicious 5-course, $30 dinners nightly); Lana (specializing in old world cuisine made with local, sustainable ingredients); and The Sugar Bakeshop (heavenly concoctions for the easily and not-so-easily tempted).
In between sampling everything from calamari, baked salmon, tomato leek soup, charcuterie, to a grapefruit cupcake (just to name a few items), we took a moment to visit the beautiful circa 1762 Jewish Cemetery on Coming Street.
