Historic Charleston Foundation rejoices with this high energy tribute to Charleston’s rich jazz history. The evening heats up with the Lewis, Gregory & Wiltrout Trio, which blends the beautifully rounded, smoky tone of jazz saxophonist Robert Lewis, the finesse of pianist Gerald Gregory, and the full-bodied sound of Ron Wiltrout. Next, the Garage Cuban Band will perform what they call “a distinctive interpretation of Cuban music as it might be heard in a back alley, busy street, or dusty garage of the island nation,” including standards and classics from the 1930s through today and clever reworkings of American jazz and lounge hits. Headlining the evening is Charlton Singleton and Contemporary Flow. An acclaimed and multi-talented musician and conductor best known for his high energy trumpet playing, Singleton’s magical and versatile artistry dazzles audiences. No one has done more than this luminescent artist to further the legacy of jazz music in South Carolina. Beer, wine, and soft drinks will be offered for purchase during the intermissions.
