SIPOA Safety and Security Meeting Summary April 2016

Safety and Security Chairman’s remarks and Committee discussion topics:

• Fog lines: Dennis presented to the SIPOA Board our Committee’s motion to add fog lines to Seabrook Island roads and it was turned down. Dennis will reintroduce that motion, with cost estimates, at a future meeting.
• Entrance gate: Dennis and Pete are addressing ongoing problems with the functioning of the gate.
o The Capsure system, which reads bar codes to open the gate, does not always function correctly. As this appears to be an ongoing system problem, our Legal Committee is reviewing our options for cancelling our contract with the vendor and Heather is reviewing other possible vendors.
o There has also been a problem with guests being admitted after passes are called in by property owners. Pete will address this issue with his staff.
• Handicap parking: The committee discussed limited handicap parking for access to the beach. Existing handicap spaces are hard to access and/or do not allow wheelchair access to the beach. Ellen will review possible options and will then present her findings and recommendations to our committee for action to correct this problem.
• CCSO communications: Skip verified with the Town that their staff refers all calls from CCSO to SI Security.
• G4S staffing: There is an ongoing problem with staff turnover at G4S, which adversely impacts their service capabilities. Dennis will discuss corrective actions with G4S at the upcoming quarterly meeting. The Committee discussed possible options, including the feasibility of employing property owners to work at the Gatehouse.

March Citations: There were 22 citations issued in March, which included the following:
• 5 speeding violations
• 7 stop signs
• 4 no drivers license/registration
• 2 parking violations
• 1 pet violation
• 1 disturbing peace
• 2 parking violations
