GOMC met twice during April; here are the highlights:
Marsh Gate Bulkhead Repair: the SIPOA Board approved the contract with Groundhog Utilities to repair the 560’ long bulkhead with 1305 tons of rip-rap. All the necessary permits are approved; work is scheduled to start on May 9 and last 6-8 weeks. The work will be noisy! However that is unavoidable and necessary to keep those properties protected from erosion.
Storm Drain Relining: Layne Inliner have started work on relining approximately 9,500’ of storm drains; they will be working on the project for at least 2 months.
High Tide Flooding Impact Study: The Board approved the report of the Sub-Committee chaired by Larry Buchman to correct flooding problems disclosed by October 2015’s King Tides in 22 locations on Seabrook Island. They also approved the proposal to immediately replace the checkvalve behind the Gatehouse which allowed water to back up from the creek into the roadway. The remaining projects will be phased over a 5 year period, as funds permit.
Lake House Projects: The Pool shades are installed; getting the contractor to finish the concrete work has been a challenge. LED bulbs are being installed throughout the Lake House. HVAC control system upgrades are being installed and the system rebalanced.
Road Signs and Mailboxes: There are just 2 streets remaining for mailbox painting. Guardrails and trashcan enclosures on the Nature Trails have also been painted.
Gnarled Pine: The storm water pipe has been repaired and the asphalt patched.
