Post-Matthew Cleanup Update – October 24th

As part of our post-Matthew cleanup, this morning SIPOA staff and tree-cutting crews started work removing approximately 70 storm-damaged trees that are in, or overhanging the road and/or right of way. These trees are severely damaged, leaning and are very likely to fall in a future strong wind or rain storm posing a threat to life and property.

The majority of the trees are located completely in the right-of-way. However, some trees have trunks that extend into private property. In these few cases, rather than cut only the portion of the tree overhanging the right-of-way, crews are removing the tree at ground level. Tree crews/equipment may need to briefly enter yards to access and remove the trees.

All trees will be cut up and placed at the road edge for pickup by SIPOA contractors. Please note that SIPOA will not be grinding the tree stumps but will make every effort to cover the stumps with pine straw or other available material.
