Dog Friendly 5K Run/Hike April 22, 2017

Celebrate Earth Day by supporting environmental education!  Join fellow runners, hikers and all around outdoor enthusiasts on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 9:00 am, for the 5th Annual Barrier Island 5K race at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center.

This 5K trail has received high praise from cross country and 5K enthusiasts, as a challenging and exciting course through the dirt roads, and narrow trails of the 314 acres of beach, maritime forest, and undisturbed salt marsh on Seabrook Island, SC.

All proceeds from the race fund the Barrier Island Environmental Education Program’s Local Outreach Program. The Local Outreach brings environmental education to Title 1 schools that don’t have the resources to send entire classes or school grades to St. Christopher for a multi-night field trip. Unfortunately, this group includes far too many of the schools right near us on the Sea Islands.

David Gardner, Director of Environmental Education, and several staff Naturalists pack up the St. Christopher van with animals and wildlife native to the barrier island environment and travel to schools to share with students. You can only imagine what taking alligators, snakes, and turtles into schools looks like. The Barrier Island Outreach Program feels it is important to equip our next generations with the knowledge of the environment in which they live in. We do this at no expense to the schools visited, but entirely with the help of sponsorship and generous giving.

Whether you are looking for a strenuous challenge, a great way to improve fitness, or a nice stroll on a Saturday morning, the Barrier Island 5K Run/Hike is for you! Hikers, dog-walkers, and others have applauded the beauty of the scenery, and a chance to fully appreciate all the creation on offer at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center.

The more funds we raise with the 5K Run/Hike, the more schools and students we are able to reach and teach about God’s creation.

We need your help. Sign up and register for the 5K, or consider being one of the sponsors that see fit to support this endeavor. We look forward to hearing from you and hopefully seeing you run with us on April 22. For more information go to

  1. Have they changed their policy on dogs at Camp St Christopher?
A few years ago, my husband with our leashed dog was told to leave the premises while he was watching me finish the race.
