Two hurricanes failed to scuttle the Seabrook Island Natural History Group’s planned Evening Program on the McLeod Plantation, which will finally arrive at the Lake House Thursday evening, January 11 after being cancelled first by Matthew and then by Irma.
“What’s New At McLeod Plantation”, presented by Lead Interpreter Leah Worthington, launches SINHG’s 2018 schedule of Evening Programs.
The history of the 37-acre McLeod Plantation, on the banks of Wappoo Creek, stretches back to pre-Civil War Charleston, with the preserved home of the McLeod family, cabins in which enslaved laborers lived, a renovated dock and a cotton gin. The plantation remained in the McLeod family until 1991 and was eventually acquired by the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Department, which now manages the site.
All Seabrook Island residents and guests are welcome. There is a $5 donation for non- SINHG members. Refreshments and fellowship are offered at 7:00 pm, followed by the program at 7:30 pm.
