The College of Charleston Opera presents award-winning student singers in several theatrical productions throughout the year. In the Fall semester, evenings of operatic and musical theatre scenes are presented; these scenes help singers grow in stagecraft experience. In the Spring term, a full mainstage production is presented. The CofC Opera students also create a Children’s Opera based on popular operatic tunes and bring the opera to elementary schools throughout Charleston County, including Johns Island.
David Templeton, Associate Professor of Voice and Opera at the College of Charleston School of the Arts, has garnered critical and popular praise for his vocal portrayals, on the opera stage and in recitals. He has performed extensively throughout the USA and abroad . He brings his considerable talents, experience and energy to his teaching–his vocal students can be heard at Piccolo Spoleto’s Noonday Young Artists Series each year and regularly take top honors in singing competitions.
Professor Templeton will bring some of his outstanding vocal students to Kiawah for a program of classical and music theatre favorites. You’ll be treated to solos, duets, and ensembles, singing arias by Puccini, Verdi, and Mozart; the Love Duet from Tristan und Isolde; and the Trio from Die Fledermaus. On the lighter side, you can enjoy selections from musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Damn Yankees, and A Little Night Music.
The Kiawah Arts and Cultural Events Council is pleased to support these young artists and provide opportunities for them to perform and develop their professional skills. We hope you will lend your support by joining us for what promises to be a delightful afternoon.
Amanda Castellone is the Assistant Director of the College of Charleston of Charleston Opera. Lorna Barker will assist at the piano.
