Engineering and Maintenance Update

From Steve Hirsch, PE, PMP, Director of Engineering:

Outfall Excavation Projects
Many residents may have noticed the ongoing construction work for two outfall excavation projects.  One project is located adjacent to 3072 Seabrook Island Road and the other is located near the intersection of Seabrook Island Road and Little Creek.  These projects are intended to excavate material out of the marsh to promote more effective drainage.  The contractor uses the wooden mats (known as mud mats) to allow the large backhoe excavator to walk out into the marsh.  We anticipate the work will be completed in two weeks.  The mud mats are stacked beside the road to allow for easier dumping into the dump truck.  The pictures below help illustrate this process.
