The Seabrook Island Artist Guild is very excited to bring Beth Tockey Williams, a “Signature Member” of the Pastel Society of America and an award-winning artist, to our next meeting, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 2 pm – 4 pm at the Lake House.
Beth earned her B.F.A. in Art Education from Texas Tech University. She has been featured on One King’s Lane, and in the Charleston Garden and Gun Jubilee, Charleston Style and Design Magazine, Pastel Journal, and the Charleston edition of Art Mag.
Beth’s current work focuses on the diverse sea island landscapes that surround her home and studio on Edisto Island. Her marsh and dune scenes have been described as sweeping, soulful and intuitive. Especially notable are her recent explorations in technique focusing on movement and textural quality of tidal and ocean waves.
Though currently expanding into oil, Beth’s medium of choice is pastel, which she prefers for its rich, luminous color and velvety finish, allowing her to capture a poignant atmospheric quality. Her work is influenced by Wolf Kahn, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, J. M. W. Turner and Winslow Homer.
Beth was awarded third-place honors for her overall body of work in the juried 2018 Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibit in Charleston. Her work can also be found in the Charleston Artist Collective Gallery, the With These Hands Gallery on Edisto Island, and in the Atelier on Bay Art Gallery and Studios in Beaufort, S.C.
October will be our month to focus on pastel art, as our own art guild member and Pastel Society of America Juried Member, Brenda Tilson, will exhibit “Roadside Cats” at the Lake House during the month.
