The Seabrook Island Artist Guild will welcome Charleston artist Chris Groves at the April 16th monthly meeting. Chris will give a demonstration of his skill at the meeting, which begins at 2:00 pm in Live Oak Hall at the Lake House. About his technique, Chris writes: “I begin every painting with a monochromatic underpainting to establish values and a rough composition. I paint in a series of layers, adding information and color to each layer in order to establish many things such as balance, gesture, harmony, as well as area of interest. Once piece has dried, I will go into layers of glaze, to help refine and adjust the overall finish of the painting. A combination of classical techniques, as well as things I have learned and invented along the journey.”
Everyone is welcome to come to the meeting. To learn more about Chris Groves, his website is www.cgroves.com.
