Every year, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity hosts Women Build, a week long event which focuses on women building a safe, decent and affordable home for a family in need of a hand up, not a hand out.
During the week of April 8, 2019 a number of Seabrook women took up various tools and used muscle power to help build one of Habitat for Humanity’s homes in James Island. The weather was fine, though a bit hot as the day wore on. Our Seabrookers were joined by other teams of women to work on the house.
The main task one day was lifting the trusses to create the framework of the roof. Rather than pay for a crane at the rate of $500 per hour, the intrepid women hoisted the trusses with the guidance of construction professionals.
Many thanks to all the Seabrookers who came out for this important cause. Thanks to their efforts, another deserving family will soon move into affordable housing. Yay, girls!
