The statewide primary election for both Democratic and Republican Parties will be conducted on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at The Lake House from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm. I have been informed that because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for social distancing, severe restrictions will be placed on access to The Lake House by voters. In addition, persons other than voters will have access to The Lake House, making the social distancing restrictions even more onerous. As of today, only 10 people are permitted in the Live Oak Room at a time – and that includes poll managers. Only 5 people are permitted in the lobby – and that includes SIPOA staff. Only 5 people are permitted on the front porch of The Lake House. These social distancing restrictions will make access to the voting machines very difficult and could result in long waiting periods in The Lake House parking lot.
There is, however, a simple solution to the uncertainty of voting at The Lake House – absentee voting! Any Seabrooker can vote by absentee ballot. You can apply for an absentee ballot online or by telephone at (843) 744-8683. Use reason #18 for requesting the absentee ballot. As of yesterday, over 300 Seabrookers have requested absentee ballots. So get on board with your neighbors and vote absentee. It’s safe, it’s easy, and it avoids the uncertainty of voting in person.
