Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are topics of much current interest. The large decline in the price of Bitcoin and developments with regard to other cryptocurrencies have been made headlines almost daily for the past month. The possible need for regulation of cryptocurrencies has also been the subject of much discussion and consideration.
This talk is a non-technical, basic introduction to these Bitcoins, blockchains, and cryptocurrencies. To help with understanding these financial innovations, the talk will show ways in which cryptocurrencies and blockchains are similar to financial instruments currently used every day.
The presenter is Warren Weber. He holds a Ph.D. in economics; was a senior research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis for 28 years; and has taught at the University of Minnesota, Carnegie Mellon University, and the University of South Carolina among others.
