SIAG July Artist of the Month – Tina Mayland

Seabrook Island Artist Guild July Artist of the Month is Tina Mayland. Tina Mayland is a native Charlestonian and to her, the Lowcountry of South Carolina is as close to paradise as any place on earth.

After a 30-year career as VP of Marketing with AT&T taking her to Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC and New Jersey, she returned to Charleston. Upon returning, she became a full-time artist. Tina explains her motivation to become a painter, “My grandparents owned a farm on Wadmalaw Island, just outside of Charleston. As a child, I built forts in live oak trees, played in the pluff mud of the marshes and galloped my horse through Lowcountry forest. Capturing the essence of that landscape in my art is a way of recapturing the joys of my youth.”

Her show is named “Lowcountry Lights”. In her art, Tina strives to capture a moment in time based on an experience that moved her. Using thick paint and bold strokes, her goal is to capture the symphony that is the Lowcountry addressing its unique light, mood and texture.

Tina served on the Board of Directors for the Charleston Art Guild for four years and is a member of the Seabrook Island Artist Guild. She is active in community serving on the Board of Trustees of the Middleton Place Foundation and on the National Board of Directors of the Archeological Institute of America. She is represented by the Wells Gallery at The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island and Lowcountry Artist Gallery in downtown Charleston.

Please join Tina for a reception on July 7 from 4:30-6:30 pm. The reception will be held at The Lake House.
