Because hunger does not end on Fridays
The Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island Challenge is off to a strong start and as you may be aware, the Challenge directly benefits school children in the surrounding area who deal with food insecurity on weekends. Our goal this year, with the help of our friends, is an aggressive $90,000!
To date, with your generous donations, we have achieved 48% of our total goal. With your help, we can get to the finish line for the upcoming school year.
Communities in Schools Site Coordinator Mt. Zion Elementary School Katie Rush shared the impact of the Backpack Buddies Program recently: “Here at Mt. Zion Elementary, 69.2% of students are considered economically disadvantaged. We know that access to food is connected to health and academic outcomes, and our partnership with Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island has been essential in addressing this need for our school community! While students can receive free breakfast and lunch on school days, we’ve found that Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island helps provide relief for families when children are not in school over the weekends. We are so grateful to Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island for helping us surround our students with the support they need!”
It takes $235.00 per year per child to make a difference. The Friends of Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island are matching dollar-for-dollar your generous donations, and $0.94 cents of every dollar goes directly to feeding school children.
